We had to wait for the 87 minute late Crewe departure "steam" special to Scarborough. We have nothing but praise for the station - like Lord Harry we found all this and adjacent parking at a reasonable price for a full day. It does not need a magic wand waving over it. If you can change at Stockport rather than go in to Manchester it is much easier. The lifts work between platforms, not much walking, platform waiting rooms, refreshment rooms, you don't have to pay to use the toilets - a big plus. It has everything that I require for what I class as a main line station. If I want department stores, etc., I don't go to a Railway Station. Oh, before anybody asks, what was my other station in the 'survey' - it was Altrincham. No, I did not praise it at all.
