Signalling problems in the Plumley area ….

Posted on November 18th, 2009, by The Chairman

Regular users will have noticed quite a number of late trains recently.

Problems started last Friday with track circuit failures in the Plumley area. Network Rail have been working to fix this, but meanwhile the problems have become worse now affecting trains in both directions and causing them to be delayed for between 10-25 minutes.

We hear today that a replacement transformer has been ordered.

We’ll keep you updated as we hear progress.

  1. The Chairman Says:

We hear the problem has been resolved. It was identified as a failed transformer and a fluctuating secondary power supply.

    The transformer has been replaced.

The secondary power supply is being monitored.

    Back to normal. Phew!

  2. The Chairman Says:

The problem has resurrected itself. Trains are losing about 10 minutes in each direction between Lostock Gralam and Knutsford.

Network Rail are back “on the case”.

    We’ll keep you updated.

  3. The Chairman Says:

Fixed again from 10am this morning. Permanently we hope this time!

  4. The Chairman Says:

Latest update. We heard this morning that Network Rail have signed off upgrading the backup power supplies for Plumley and Greenbank signalboxes. Once replaced, the problems we experienced last week should be permanently behind us since the backup system should operate as expected.
