Wrexham’s more attractive! ….
If you use Plumley or Lostock Gralam stations and are going for a day to Chester, did you know that a return fare to Wrexham is cheaper than a return to Chester? Bizarrre!
This appears to have come about because of the way First North Western was split into the bit that went into Arriva Trains Wales, with the rest going into Northern Rail.
Arriva Trains Wales will want to keep the current system since they’ll get around half the revenue for a Plumley to Wrexham return, even though those only going to Chester don’t use their trains, but Northern will want it changed as they’re losing significant revenue.
Whilst York and Cardiff battle over this, passengers from Plumley and Lostock Gralam can have a cheaper trip to Chester. No Northern Duos on these, though!
