Rog,

Many thanks for making your comments on Cheshire Best Kept Stations.

Whilst the majority of our awards are for those that are at the top of their category - Knutsford won the Best Kept Station in Cheshire East, Cuddington won the Tidiest Station Award, we also recognise effort and determination.

You are correct to say that Greenbank is not without its problems - mainly becuase of local anti-social behaviour. The award for Greenbank was the Cheshire Youth Challange Award 2009, which is supported by Cheshire Crimebeat. At Greenbank the local church, Christ Church - which is based at the station, have taken steps to get the station more hospitable. Yes, it is one challenge, however, it is a fact that if a local group makes an effort, vandalism reduces considerably and the station starts to become tidier and more hospitable.

But the story goes further. We have got their local councillor involved and the project is now being supported by Cheshire West & Chester with a small local grant and they will be supplying flowers for the Chester bound garden. Watch this space !!

I'm surprised to see Greenbank in that list.

When I was last there in September 09 the Chester bound platform was covered in empty beer cans and there was an unpleasant smell on the Manchester bound platform.

If volunteers have cleaned it up since to make it an award winning station then they've done very well.
