Free bus service to Cheshire Show ….
Posted on May 6th, 2010, by The Chairman
We are pleased to see Cheshire East Council is this year sponsoring a free bus service from Knutsford, Northwich & Hartford stations to the Cheshire Show. Some of the connections at Knutsford are good.

Probably the best day out in Cheshire in any year.
I don’t understand why it doesn’t run over a weekend, too.

I used the free bus service from Knutsford today.
It was very heavily loaded and unable to keep to the timetable due to traffic conditions. The service I was on to the show was full with about 20 standing.
Coming back, the 1500 had left at 1445 full and standing, with the next bus due at 1540. It arrived at 1525, filled up again full with standing and left immediately. I still managed to make my 1549 train to Mobberley – with 2 minutes to spare! Northern had extra revenue collection in place at Knutsford and seemed to be taking loads.
I heard the bus had carried well over 300 this morning on the Optare Solo in use with 27 seats and standing room and they had kept running it all morning past the timetabled times as the loadings were so heavy.
Obviously a very popular service. Hopefully, they’ll get an extra or larger bus into the service for tomorrow to cope with the loadings and traffic queues.
Well done Cheshire East and GHA Coaches for reacting to the loadings and sorting out a revised plan so quickly.

The above problems made a mention in the Knutsford Guardian –

I heard later that the Show received 80,000 visitors on Tuesday, compared with 40,000 on the first day last year.
I agree with Mike Battman, it’s a great day out. I found the owl and the vulture demonstrations enthralling, as well as an excellent presentation on sparkling wines by Oliver from local family wine importers, C&O Wines of Altrincham, and lots more. And it was very, very hot! ….

The question to ask is why the bus service was downgraded from a 40 seater Warrington Borough Transport bus running all day a couple of years ago to a 27 seater bus running for part of the day?
I understand the reason it was dropped last year was because Cheshire East said it would cost too much to run, so the cost cutting looks to have had bad consequences.
