Northern granted franchise extension ….

Northern Rail has secured a two year extension to its train operating franchise on the same terms as its existing contract.
The Department for Transport has confirmed that the franchise will now run until September 2013. The two year extension follows the significant performance improvements that Northern has achieved since the franchise began in December 2004.
Congratulations from MCRUA. Well deserved in our view given the significantly improved performance compared to life under the previous franchisee, First North Western.
