Music Train graduates with honours …..

Wednesday’s (21st August 2013) Mid Cheshire Line Music Train carried 36 music lovers and an unusual quartet of musicians from Altrincham to Alexanders in Chester.

The Murray String Quartet played with the verve, enthusiasm and musicianship.

Four recent Royal Northern College of Music graduates (Ann Brigham, Frances Evans, Jessica Hall and Chris Terepin) entertained us for almost two hours.

Their repertoire was not quite what you would have expected from two violins, a viola and a cello.

For, as well as classical pieces like Pachabel’s Canon, we heard polished performances of music from Cold Play (Viva La Vida), Elvis Costello (She), the Beatles (Eleanor Rigby) – and a Michael Jackson medley.

All played in a moving rail carriage without a hiccup or a missed beat.

In between the two train trips we enjoyed Alan Jeffs and Out of Nowhere at Alexanders. They performed their entertaining mix of jazz, swing, and Latin styles – combining the delightful vocals of Jacky Q with the accomplished guitar playing of Alan Jeffs.

A passenger commented:

”The return journey was very lively – really first rate. The Murray Quartet asked for requests and got the train joining in with songs – things like Phantom etc.  As the main party alighted at Knutsford they were singing on the platform waving the train away – quite spectacular and the general passengers were amazed. One passenger wanted their details and said he would be contacting them.  He said he ran a small recording studio.  ALL our participants thought it was great – not one sign of anything but praise”.

A great evening.
