Chester Northgate to Manchester via Hale & Sale (new book) ….

Posted on December 11th, 2013, by The Chairman

We don’t normally promote publications, but here’s one just out that looks like a good one for over Christmas.

chester-to-manchester book

It’s from Keith Mitchell and Keith Smith, and published by Middleton Press – there are more details on the Middleton Press website.

Thanks to Andrew Macfarlane for spotting this. Mine’s already ordered for Christmas!

Mine arrived in today’s post but I can’t open the package until Christmas Day.

It’s an interesting book with historic track diagrams and an outline history of each station on the line from Northgate to Manchester. The author does seem fixated on the number of levers in the frame of each signal box described; not sure why. But it doesn’t detract from a worthwhile book. There are lots of historic pictures and those of the Altrincham Electrics, the station as it was, and the train sheds brought back memories for me. Anyone with an interest in the line (so all of us, then!) should have a copy.
