Metrolink update – May 2017 ….

Posted on May 7th, 2017, by The Chairman

Our Secretary, Paul Wilkinson writes ….

There’s no mention on the beta TFGM or Metrolink websites, but notice improvements work posters are up at some stops talking about engineering work taking place on Sunday 14 May.

Services will run as following.

Sunday 14 May

No trams Altrincham to City Centre

Tram service:
* Bury to Ashton
* East Didsbury to Firswood
* Manchester Airport to Firswood
* Rochdale to Deansgate.

Buses will run as follows:
* Altrincham to Piccadilly
* Chorlton to Deansgate
* Eccles via MediaCityUK to Piccadilly.

I undertsand the closure will allow:
1. Replacing sleepers and points at Cornbrook
2. Sorting the temporary 5mph speed limit at the recently inserted Sale Crossover
3. Tamping the line between Dane Road and Old Trafford (apparently to raise the speed limit on this section)
4. Installation of overhead line (OHLE) poles and cabling (for the new Substation at Brooklands).

  1. Lord Harry of Sodor Says:

    Good planning again by TfGM and Metrostink again. There may be no major football matches in town but there is a big Rugby League Cup Match at Heywood Road , Sale where the Swinton Lions are hoping to eat all the Pies coming from Wigan. Major road congestion in the area.

  2. Andrew Macfarlane Says:

    Looks like someone has cut through a cable because the whole network has been suspended since 16.00. Not certain if the service will restart tomorrow morning.
