Stockport gets new signs ….

Posted on July 11th, 2010, by The Chairman

Stockport’s new signs look really smart, replacing those from the Inter-City era of the early 1990s.
Here’s a picture from last Monday afternoon on platform 3.
And in the booking hall ….
Strange that it takes Virgin until virtually the end of their franchise to get their signs up given how keen they are on branding. Northern [...]

Bloomin’ Engineering Work (at Cuddington) ….

Posted on July 6th, 2010, by The Chairman

Last Sunday we had replacement buses between Knutsford and Chester due to track relaying between Cuddington and Greenbank. The buses all ran to plan from what we heard/saw.
Here’s an engineering train approaching Cuddington “wrong line” (or “bang road” as it’s also known on the Railway – is that “bang” as in “crash”?!!)
Volunteers took [...]

Mobberley station has benefitted from gardening care since 2003, when a deal was struck. The then train company, First North Western, would hire a skip and bring in labour for ½ a day to dig over what had been flower beds 30 years earlier, and remove all sorts of débris including ballast, a railway [...]

The trial sees the ticket office open an hour earlier at 0615. This means it will now also be open for the first 3 services, the 0625 to Manchester, the 0705 to Stockport as well as [...]

Mouldsworth shelter comes to life! ….

Posted on May 23rd, 2010, by The Chairman

We’ve had an aspiration for years for the shelter on the Manchester-bound platform to have the nasty dark green-painted fibreboard removed from the windows and the windows reinstated.
Yesterday the work started (pictures taken from a Chester-bound train) ….
Please let us know if you know how many years ago they were boarded over.
Many thanks to Northern [...]

Plumley – Are we sitting comfortably? ….

Posted on May 18th, 2010, by The Chairman

After many years with nowhere to sit down on the Chester-bound platform, we have a “new” bench installed.
The foot is there for perspective!
As you can see it’s an original railway bench, now returned to the railway. Very fitting for Plumley with its rather special station.
Plumley with Toft and Bexton Parish Council are delighted and [...]
