Mouldsworth shelter comes to life! ….

Posted on May 23rd, 2010, by The Chairman

We’ve had an aspiration for years for the shelter on the Manchester-bound platform to have the nasty dark green-painted fibreboard removed from the windows and the windows reinstated.
Yesterday the work started (pictures taken from a Chester-bound train) ….
Please let us know if you know how many years ago they were boarded over.
Many thanks to Northern [...]

Plumley – Are we sitting comfortably? ….

Posted on May 18th, 2010, by The Chairman

After many years with nowhere to sit down on the Chester-bound platform, we have a “new” bench installed.
The foot is there for perspective!
As you can see it’s an original railway bench, now returned to the railway. Very fitting for Plumley with its rather special station.
Plumley with Toft and Bexton Parish Council are delighted and [...]

NEW! – Easy to read timetables for each of our stations ….

Posted on May 7th, 2010, by The Chairman

For years people have been complaining that railway timetables are difficult to understand. But the industry doesn’t seem to do anything about it. Notable exceptions are GMPTE with their clear station posters and also Merseyrail, though they confuse by using the 12 hour clock that the rest of the UK travel industry gave [...]

Stockport’s Fences ….

Posted on February 18th, 2010, by The Chairman

Chester has its (scruffy) gates. No-one has yet been able been able to tell us what they’re there for.
Now Stockport has its fences. These are at the Manchester-end of the main platforms (1&2 and 3&4).
It seems that a number of people over the years have taken a fancy (for whatever reason) to a [...]

Delamere Forest – fresh air, wildlife and fun! ….

Posted on February 9th, 2010, by The Chairman

Did you know that Delamere Forest is Cheshire’s largest area of woodland? We even have our very own Mid-Cheshire Line railway station right in its heart.
From the station it’s a short 10-minute stroll to the Information Centre (where you can buy a map of all the trails), Tracs cycle hire and Go Ape. [...]
