CRANFORD TRAIN FROM CHESTER TO KNUTSFORD

Enjoy an evening exploring Knutsford and find out about Mrs Gaskell , her novels and where she lived .... 

On Wednesday 18th May 2011, the Cranford Train will depart from Chester at 18.07 for a scenic journey through Mid Cheshire to Knutsford and an evening learning about Mrs Gaskell and her life in Knutsford.

How it works
The Cranford Train is arranged by the Mid-Cheshire Community Rail Partnership working with Knutsford Heritage Centre. 

Those on the Cranford Train will share a carriage and there will be free wine or a soft drink whilst travelling to Knutsford.

Once in Knutsford the group will walk to Knutsford Heritage Centre to meet the Mrs Gaskell guide and then the tour of Knutsford will commence.

There will be some uphill walking and the streets of Knutsford can be narrow with kerbs to negotiate.

The tour will last approximately one hour and the group will return to the Heritage Centre for free tea and coffee before returning on the 20.59 train back to Chester.

If the weather is very wet an alternative presentation on Mrs Gaskell and her association with Knutsford will be given in the Heritage Centre.

Both Chester and Knutsford Railway Stations are accessible. 

Parking for Chester Railway Station
Parking in City Road is limited to one hour until 18:00 and free thereafter.

Parking outside the Queen Hotel is limited to 30 minutes until 18:00 and free thereafter.

So if you arrive on City Road after 17:00 or outside the Queen Hotel after 17:30 then you can leave your car there all evening without penalty. 

Booking a place on the Guided Gaskell Walk
Places on the Mrs Gaskell heritage walk must be booked directly with Knutsford Heritage Centre – phone 01565 650506 and book on to the 18th May walk. Tickets cost £5.

Buy your ticket from Chester at the station: Off-Peak Day Return £9.10 (with Railcard £6.00) or Northern Duo (two people travelling together) £6.82 each. 

At other stations just board the train and buy your ticket from the conductor.
