THE GREAT EASTERN EXPRESS 13th May 2009
Many passengers on The Great Eastern Express have written to our Chairman, via the website, thanking the Special Trains Working Team for such an enjoyable day.
The Rail Tour, which took over 480 passengers from the Mid Cheshire Line (and Chinley) to Peterborough, Ely and Cambridge was hauled by by Diesel Class 67, 67028 with 67029 (Royal Diamond) on the rear (used as the lead engine on the return).
The Rail Tour's route included the Hope Valley, Chesterfield, Nottingham and Grantham with an option of steam travel on the Nene Valley Railway.
The train timings were excellent, the staff and support from Riveria Trains Ltd was first rate. Even the sun shined throughout the journey!
Over 50 passenegers enjoyed the Nene Valley Railway.
Those that visited Cambridge enjoyed a splendid day out with reports of visits to The Botanical Gardens, Kings College Chapel and The Backs - to see the punting.
John Oates, Chairman of MCRUA said "The Rail Tour was a great success. I would like to thank all those involved, especially the Couriers and MCRUA members, who have worked non-stop to make this Rail Tour special".
