An Autumn Treat if you’re 55 or over ….

Posted on October 11th, 2009, by The Chairman

Both Arriva Trains Wales and TransPennine Express are currently running promotions for those aged 55 and over. All you need is proof of being over 55 and the ticket can be bought at the station or on the train for unstaffed stations. ATW tickets can even be bought to/from certain stations on our line using Northern services – Knutsford, Mobberley, Ashley, Hale, Altrincham and Navigation Road it seems as an add on to ATW services to Stockport/Manchester, though they appear to be valid to go to ATW destinations via Northwich and Chester. The ATW offer is valid until 12 December (with some restrictions and dates excepted), the TPE offer until 31 October with some restrictions around peak periods.

So for £16 you could travel from Knutsford to Fishguard Harbour or Holyhead, return within a month with ATW, or for £20 return from Manchester to Edinburgh with TPE, or splash out and go to Edinburgh for £30 return First Class!

A nice Autumn treat for the over 55s!

Let us know if you use it, how it went and how much you saved!

  1. Gerry from Northwich Says:

Your proposal of a First Class Trip to Edinburgh sounds great. What route does the TPE to Edinburgh take and how long does it take.

Are there any further reductions if you have a Railcard?

  2. The Chairman Says:

    Hi, Gerry!

The route is via Lancaster, Shap, Carlisle, Beattock to Carstairs, then east to Edinburgh. Glasgow is also available at the same prices with the same route as far as Carstairs, then north west to Glasgow.

There are extra discounts for Railcards.
