Club 55 is back ….

Posted on January 10th, 2010, by The Chairman

Arriva Trains Wales has reintroduced its promotion for those aged 55 and over. This time tickets can also be bought on line. As before all you need is proof of being over 55 and the ticket can also be bought at the station or on the train for unstaffed stations.

ATW Club 55 tickets can be bought to/from certain stations on our line using Northern services for a £1 add on – Knutsford, Mobberley, Ashley, Hale, Altrincham and Navigation Road it seems as an add on to ATW services to Stockport/Manchester, though they appear to be valid to go to ATW destinations via Northwich and Chester.

Tickets can also be bought for stations on the Crewe to Liverpool Line for travel with London Midland to join ATW services at Crewe, the add on for these being £5.

The ATW offer is valid from today, 10 January (with some restrictions and dates excepted) until 19 March inclusive.

So for a return ticket valid for a month for example for £16 from Knutsford, £20 from Hartford or £15 from Chester or Stockport to Fishguard Harbour or Holyhead or lots of other places in between, it’s great value.

Let’s hope the weather improves soon!

If you use this offer, please let us know how it went and how much you saved!

p.s. Scotrail are also repeating their Club 55 offering, but not TransPennine Express this time.

  1. Steve Bratt Says:

The £15 is reduced to £13 if you have a Senior or Disabled Railcard (Disabled still have to be over 55), but the conditions say the Northern add on is only available within Greater Manchester – http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/club55_tc.aspx

  2. The Chairman Says:

    Thanks, Steve.

The ticket clerk at Shrewsbury didn’t tell me that when he suggested selling me a Club 55 Return from Shrewsbury to Mobberley, rather than the Single I’d requested. I used it to go Shrewsbury-Chester-Mobberley.

The upsetting thing was he obviously thought I was over 55 (I am, but like to think I’m not!)

p.s. someone should tell ATW that Ashley, Mobberley and Knutsford are not in Greater Manchester. Or perhaps not, this way I can still use it!

  3. Black Five from Rhyl Says:

You may be interested to see that the on-line advertising for Club 55 specifically says the Northern add-on can be used from Knutsford.

    It is mentioned at http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/Club55_addonfares.aspx

It also mentions Chelford. Certainly not Greater Manchester. Unless of course you live in Cardiff!
