Northwich clean up and other stations too! ….

Posted on June 6th, 2010, by The Chairman

The general clean up at Northwich continues, reports our Community Rail Officer, Sally Buttifant ….

“The fine weather means that the Mid Cheshire Line is really blooming & there is lots of activity along the line.

“At Northwich – we have 6-7 core “Friends” who spent 2½ hours planting 19 trays of bedding plants on the car park embankment, litter picking the public areas of the station and the car park and the embankment – 4-5 bags of rubblish were collected by the Council and 4-5 bags of cans and bottles were recycled. The embankment was strimmed & dug over for us by the CWAC NEAT team (Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team).

“We were seen by many passengers coming and going and received positive comments about the work that was being done. We were joined on the 22nd by one young person plus supervisor from the Youth Offending Team and a team of 6 adults plus supervisor through the Community Payback scheme. We also had community reps from Northwich Neighbourhood Management there.

“Everyone worked really hard together. We had garden tools provided by Tesco & water from Stuart in the ticket office.

“A meeting I had with Network Rail has also encouraged Network Rail to carry out some work at the station.

“On 2nd June volunteers met again at Northwich to plant 150 geraniums donated through CWAC. There are yet more to plant in planters being made for us by the Friends of Anderton & Marbury Country Park, so we have real local partnership with many different partners coming together to make a difference at the station.

“There 300 geraniums for other stations in Cheshire West & Chester.

“At Delamere, Chris Ingham (Northern Rail) and I worked with Peter Davies (MCRUA) to prepare the ground for a Forestry Commission volunteer to plant the geraniums. 300 were planted in gorgeous sunshine on June 3rd.

“There will be other volunteers planting at Greenbank and Mouldsworth.

“Here’s Mouldsworth residents planting geraniums at Mouldsworth Station on 9 June in tubs made by Friends of Anderton & Marbury & sited by Marbury Countryside Rangers from CWAC.

Mouldsworth residents in action!

“Our other stations are not being forgotten – Plumley volunteers have been out working on the station and we have the “Walking Project” there (more about that soon).

“I am also in touch with the Friends of Altrincham Interchange, as well as Knutsford in Bloom and am meeting other Community Rail Officers who share Stockport as a station.”

Wow, Sally! That’s a lot of people involved, and is getting us a great result. If anyone has pictures we can load showing progress, please email them to me.

I’ve updated the “Clean Up” post with words and a picture following planting in Mouldsworth on 9 June. I like the flower tub, too!
