Runway Two Trail – Go by Train! ….

Posted on June 23rd, 2010, by The Chairman

Manchester Airport’s Runway Two Trail launched last year takes in some of the scenic Cheshire countryside, including the Bollin Valley and offers some fantastic viewing points for watching aircraft landing and taking off on Runway Two.

The Trail itself consists of two routes, identified by Runway Two Trail markers. The Trail can be started at any point along the route.

Information boards have been erected around the Trail giving information on woodlands and grasslands, ponds, the River Bollin tunnel, bats and archaeology.

Mobberley station is only just over a mile away from the trail, served by hourly services from our line (remember it’s currently a request stop, so you’ll need to remind the conductor you want to stop there!) Normal pattern is trains arrive and leave around 5 minutes to the hour. Allow enough time to get across the level crossing before the barriers come down, if you need to!

An informative leaflet with colourful map can be downloaded from the right-hand side of the Environment page on the Airport’s website.

Once you’ve completed your walk, why not go for something to eat and drink at one of Mobberley’s delightful, nearby country pubs? The Railway Inn (by the station), The Church Inn (by “guess where”! and as seen on Coronation Street), and The Chapel House (as also recently featured on Coronation Street).

And whilst you’re in Mobberley, why not have a look at the Mobberley Village Society website to see what’s going on locally?
