Skelton Junction Loop re-instated ….

Posted on November 17th, 2011, by The Chairman

The loop at Skelton Junction has been out of use for many months. This was due to track damage with replacement parts awaited.

These parts were installed a few months ago, but commissioning had to await the arrival of the signalling engineers.

Andrew’s noted the loop is now back in use, meaning the Saturdays only Northenden to Dowlow empties will now not have to go to Northwich to run round.

On another blog that I visit, the following post has been made…

“On the way home last night I crossed the bridge on Moss Lane. There was a large gang of workers working on the line that goes towards Carrington. If it wasn’t for the fact that they did have a locomotive with them I’d have thought they were nicking the track. Are there plans to reopen the line as far as the recycling centre perhaps? ”

…is this to do with the loop works or are they working on the old ‘West Timperley’ line for some other reason? As far as I’m aware the recycling centre was in Davyhulme and got rejected at planning anyway.

As I understand it the work at Skelton Junction entails lowering the track under Moss Lane bridge to provide improved clearance for freight trains diverted off the Eccles line while it is being electrified.

    Thanks Andrew

A slight correction. I understand that work took place during the weekend of 19th and 20th November under Park Road bridge.
