Mid Cheshire Rail Report – Winter 2012/2013. An update ….

Posted on December 9th, 2012, by The Chairman

Members should have received their printed copies of the Rail Report last week together with the new timetable and subscription renewal forms (but you can renew using our website and save a stamp!) We’ve used a new distribution system. Those dispatched electronically should get these next week.

Things often change fast on “the Railway”.

Andrew provides the following update:
– the GM Wayfarer ticket is remaining as a scratchcard from January (the price increase will still go ahead)
– the Oldham Mumps to Shaw and Piccadilly to Droylsden Metrolink lines will not now open until the New Year*; 11 February for the Droylsden line (*Updated Update! Shaw service now to start on Sunday 16 December*)
– Metrolink will only operate between 09.00 and 21.00 on Boxing Day (Bury and Altrincham services will reverse at Piccadilly Gardens)
– the announcement of the route of HS2 from north of Lichfield to Manchester and Leeds has been postponed until the New Year
– Virgin have agreed a management contract for InterCity West Coast for 23 months from 9/12/12 and the previous plan of having a further 2-year franchise beyond that before a longer term franchise to 2026 was let has been abandoned.

Also, I’ve noted the Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) at Knutsford now takes notes and coins and gives change. However, “Knutsford” still doesn’t show on the ticket collection websites of most TOCs apart from Northern, but you can collect your “Tickets on Departure” (TODs) there rather than at the station you specify, say Northwich, so long as you have the Booking Reference Number and the credit/debit card used to pay for the ticket. Northern are aware of the above and I’m told are working to sort it.

  1. The Chairman Says:

Update updated above! The Metrolink Shaw service will now start on Sunday 16 December.

  2. Mike Battman Says:

I think that a trip to Shaw will be on the agenda for me over the Xmas break; not sure I’ll be on the first tram though, that leaves Oldham Mumps at around 6:50, so I guess Trafford Bar c6:20.
